Cu-nt

Print + Typography

ISTD awarded

There isn’t a word in the English language that has as much power or gravity given to it than the word cunt. Its a word that cuts through any sentence, creating a verbal full stop.

However, the word has evolved to become a term of endearment amongst friends in Australia and Scotland, and is becoming a much more common word to hear in the UK. I wanted to explore the history of the word cunt and to investigate how this one word can have such vulgar connotations and also be thrown around in friendly conversations. I wanted to explore this and reflect my findings typographically, bridging its interesting history and the very polar opposites of its usage.

Final thoughts

I presented my work to the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) ((unfortunate acronym)) and was awarded with a pass and an invitation to the society - something I have been very proud of since completing the book.
